NorthWestern Energy and employees provided $1.47 million in 2023 to support their communities

Date: Feb 14, 2024

Sioux Falls, S.D./Butte, Mont. – Feb. 14, 2024 – NorthWestern Energy continued their tradition of supporting community organizations by donating almost $400,000 to organizations in the more than 400 communities they serve in Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska.

“While we are typically known for our energy services in Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska, a big part of our business is focused on how we can support the communities we serve,” said NorthWestern Energy Director of Community Connection Rick Edwards. “Over the years, our contributions have gotten more diverse and we’re proud to give back to more than 600 organizations across our service area. Donations are funded by the company, not through the rates our customers pay.”

Additionally, in 2023, NorthWestern Energy donated $94,900 in recognition of their employees’ volunteer work for non-profit organizations. This is one way the company promotes work-life integration for their dedicated staff.

Another noteworthy act of service is their support of local United Way chapters. Last year, NorthWestern Energy employees pledged almost $117,000 to local affiliates, which was then matched with another $58,375 donation from the company, for a total contribution of more than $175,000 to United Way.

NorthWestern Energy also provided more than $102,000 to support scholarships through the Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska university systems and $697,000 in sponsorships, such as One Tree Planted, the Montana Folk Festival, Eagle Mount, the South Dakota State Fair and Nebraska Skills USA.

“NorthWestern Energy is honored to support the organizations working to make the communities we serve better places to live, work and prosper for all members,” said NorthWestern Energy Vice President Customer Care, Communications and Human Resources Bobbi Schroeppel. “As an active part of our community, we want to give back to the organizations that bring essential services and support to our families, employees and customers.”

NorthWestern Energy is currently accepting applications for charitable giving in 2024. Information is available at https://www.northwesternenergy.com/in-your-community/charitable-programs.
